Blackboard is a course management tool.

Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) has joined with all of the other colleges in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) to locate all online courses on the same Blackboard server.

You will use Blackboard to check for announcements, participate in Discussion Forums, turn in formal papers, receive graded assignments, and check your progress in the course by accessing your personal gradebook.
You can also access all course information and course documents from within Blackboard; I have created links from Blackboard to this course site.

Blackboard is located at http://www.bb.vccs.edu.

I suggest that you add the above web address to the favorites on your web browser.

To log in to Blackboard you must have the following information:

  • your VCCS email user name and password
  • your Blackboard user name and password.
Go to the Start Page for information on how to access your email and Blackboard accounts.

Once you are in the Blackboard, you will be at a portal page which lists all the Blackboard courses in which you are currently enrolled.

From your portal page, click on Eng 267: The Modern Novel to enter the course. You will enter the course on the Information page where I have written a Welcome message.
Whenever you log in to the Blackboard, please select Announcements to read about any changes in or updates to course procedures.
To alter or update your personal information, select Tools, Personal Information.
To enter the discussion forums, select Discussion Board.
To check your grades, select Tools, Check Grade.
