Objectives: To learn how to approach the critical and analytical reading of a novel To understand the nature of plot in the novel To understand the nature of character in the novel To demonstrate your ability to communicate your knowledge of the nature of the novel To communicate your background in reading novels
Task	Activity
2-1	Log in to the Blackboard and check the Announcements page for new messages regarding course activities. Also check your VCCS email for messages from your instructor.
2-2	Read the following material from the Novels web site: How to Read a Book Plot Character
2-3	Review the question in Exam #1.
2-4	Take Exam #1. Determine your NovaConnect EmplID. If you don't know your EmplID, go to the How to Look Up Your User Name web page. Print and fill out Exam Pass #1. Exam Passes are available at the Exam Passes document Take your EmplID, a picture ID, and your exam pass to any campus Testing Center. There you will be given a copy of the exam question and specific instructions for the essay you will write. You will write the essay in Microsoft Word and copy and paste it into a text box in the Exams section of the Blackboard. Allow yourself two hours to complete this assignment.
2-5	Email me to notify that you have taken Exam #1. You will be able to pick up your exam in the Digital Drop Box in the Blackboard within one week of notifying me that you have completed your exam.
