Welcome to English 267, The Modern Novel.

This is an accelerated 8-week course; you will be expected to complete the course in half a semester. Most weeks you will be assigned to read and comment on two full-length novels.

Plan to spend a minimum of 15-20 hours per week on this course. If the workload of this course strikes you as daunting, please register instead for the 16-week semester-long version of this course which is offered at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester.

I invite you to first read About This Course and About the Instructor. Next go to Course Information and read through the Syllabus and Assignments; these pages contain details on all course procedures and requirements.

When you are ready to start your work, go to the Course Calendar section with its weekly list of activities.

Please note that you must turn in at least one assignment (e.g., an introductory email with required contact and course information or an introductory Blackboard posting) before your Tuition Refund Date; otherwise I will be obliged to drop you from the course for non-attendance; under these circumstances you will not be eligible for a tuition refund.

The Student Support section contains information on how to write about literature. Novels takes you to another web site containing assigned readings pertaining to the the authors and works being read in this course. Blackboard takes you to the Blackboard course management system where you will post all of your written assignments for this course.
