Welcome to English 256, Literature of Science Fiction.

This is an accelerated 8-week course; you will be expected to complete the course in half a semester. Most weeks you will be assigned to read and comment on at least 4 short stories.

Plan to spend a minimum of 15-20 hours per week on this course. If the workload of this course strikes you as daunting, please register instead for the 16-week semester-long version of this course which is offered at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester.

When you are ready to start your work, go to the Calendar section with its weekly lists of activities.

The Support section contains information on how to write about literature. Sci Fi Guide takes you to my website with information about the genre of science fiction and about individual authors and works. Blackboard takes you to the Blackboard course management system where you will post all of your written assignments for this course.

Please note that you must turn in at least one assignment (e.g., an introductory email with required contact and course information or an introductory Blackboard posting) before your Tuition Refund Date; otherwise I will be obliged to drop you from the course for non-attendance; under these circumstances you will not be eligible for a tuition refund.
