Eng 256: Literature of Science Fiction

Objective: To demonstrate your ability to apply the definitions of science fiction to a character and/or story from popular culture. Content: Unit 7: Science Fiction and Popular Culture

Task	Activity
16-1	Log in to the Blackboard and check the Announcements page for new messages regarding course activities. Also check your VCCS email for messages from your instructor.
16-2	Review the following material from the SciFiGuide: Definitions
16-3 optional extra credit	Compose a review (not a plot summary) of any science fiction novel or of a science fiction film that has played in theaters within the last 12 months. Post your review to the Reviews and Recommendations Forum You may want to look at some published book and movie reviews before your post your own review.
16-4	Review the question in Exam #2: If you wish to write your exam on a work not listed above, please email me to receive permission to use the work of your choice before you write the exam.
16-5	Prepare for Exam #2. To prepare to answer this question, you may prepare notes and an outline and bring these with you when you take the exam. However, you will leave all of your notes with the Testing Center proctor who will forward them to me. If you use outside sources you must cite the references using proper MLA format. Review the MLA Style Guide, if necessary.
16-6	Take Exam #2. Determine your NovaConnect EmplID. If you don't know your EmplID, go to the Find My ID web page. Print out and fill out Exam Pass #2. Take your exam pass and a photo ID to any campus Testing Center. There you will be given a copy of the exam question and specific instructions for the essay you will write. You will be writing your exam in Microsoft Word, and then pasting it into a password-protected Text Box in the Exams section of the Eng 256 Blackboard. Please follow the directions on the Exam Pass to properly post your exam.
16-7	Complete the Course Evaluation.
16-8	Email me to notify that you have taken Exam #2 and completed the Course Evaluation. You will be able to pick up your exam in the Digital Drop Box in the regular Eng 256 Blackboard within two weeks of notifying me that you have completed your exam.
