Welcome to Beyond. . . , a web site for fans of science fiction and fantasy. Begun as a companion site for my college-level Literature of Science fiction courses, this site has grown into a compendium of the results of my extensive studies of science fiction and my more recent forays into fantasy.

Overview provides definitions of literature of the fantastic in general and science fiction and fantasy in particular. Subject Matter describes major topics of science fiction and fantasy and also attempts to define the major subgenres of both science fiction and fantasy.

Author Profiles offers brief biographies of authors in the field. The Fiction Guides and Media Guides provide chronologies of science fiction and fantasy literature, film, and television, and brief discussions of selected short fiction, novels, and television series. Resources currently contains award lists; in the future it will also contain a critical bibliography, some information on professional associations and publications in the field, and an annotated list of links to other web sites.
