Hi! Well, there is a timelessness about
physics that can't be denied. Whether we're drawing upon the
inviolate principles developed by Sir Isaac Newton in the late 1600's or
Galileo's theory of relativity expounded fifty years earlier, we
are constantly reminded that others have pondered this same world
before us and, if we stand on the shoulders of these giants and peer
off into the distance, we ourselves may be able to further man's
understanding of the world about him.
Many of you will be taking a class in physics, not out of
love for the field itself, but rather as a means to an end, a
professional career, perhaps, in engineering, or medical technology or
technical drawing. Whatever your field of interest, classical
physics as taught at NVCC can speak to you in ways that allow you to
comprehend the technical underpinnings to life in our modern society
and to feel at home in an evermore technological society. Physics
gives you the tools to master the world around you, to be that
confident user of this high-tech servant to society. Welcome to
the challenge!
