GRADING

There will be four equally weighted exams on the assigned dates.  Each exam will cover the material discussed in class up till that date.  The final exam is not cumulative.  Exams may contain short answer, multiple choice, matching, fill in the blanks, diagrams to label, and true false questions.  The exams cover material discussed in class.  Detailed objectives will be passed out prior to each exam.   NO EXAM WILL BE DROPPED.

Your final grade will be composed of both lab and lecture grades.  Your lab grade will count as 25% of your final grade and your lecture average will count as 75% of your final grade.

The grading scale is 90% = A, 80% = B, 70% = C, 60% = D, 50% = F.

Make-up Exams
You are expected to take the exams on time.  If you know ahead of time that you must miss an exam, see me before the exam to schedule another time.  If a problem arises the day of the exam, call me or the secretary that day to arrange a make up.  All make-ups must be taken before the exam is handed back (the next class) or you will receive a “0”.  Taking a make-up will result in a loss of  “5” points, per day, from the test grade, and bonus questions will not be counted on exams taken late.
NOTE:  NO EXAM WILL BE DROPPED.  There are no “retakes” on exams.  There is no possibility of  “extra credit” work.

Academic honesty is expected.  Giving or receiving help on an exam is not acceptable.  Cheating will result in a “0” for the exam.  (During exams please do not wear hats.)

Bio 101-102 explores the fundamental characteristics of living matter from the molecular level to the ecological community with emphasis on general biological principles.  The course introduces the student to the diversity of living organisms, their structure, function, and evolution.
General Biology 101 and 102 are for both science and non-science majors.  They fulfill the laboratory science requirements for most majors, and are a prerequisite for “200” level biology courses. Bio 101 should be taken before Bio 102.

My exams test on material covered in lecture.  Therefore, the best way to get a good grade in my class is to attend all classes, take good notes and know all the material in those notes.  Objectives will be handed out in lecture to help make sure you are aware of all points that have been covered.

Any student who does not take Exam I will be withdrawn from the course.  If you take Exam I, it is up to you to withdraw if necessary.

Students are expected to follow Information Technology Student/Patron Ethics Agreement as posted in computer areas and academic integrity standards as set down in the Student Handbook.

In case of emergency, please follow the emergency procedure as discussed on the first day of class and as posted in the classroom.

NVCC is a place for learning and growing.  You should feel free and comfortable anywhere on this campus.  In order to meet this objective, you should let your instructor, his/her supervisor, the Dean of Students or Provost know if any unsafe, unwelcome or uncomfortable situation arises that interferes with the learning process.
