Hi.  My name is Adam Howard, and I will be your instructor for the upcoming HIS 101 class at the Extended Learning Institute.  Before teaching with NVCC, I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Florida, focusing on 20th century American and European history.  I had spent six years in western New York earning my B.A. and M.A. in history, so attending graduate school in Florida was a welcome reprieve after so many years of harsh winters and grey skies.

My current research interests focus on diplomatic history and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The e-mail address above will provide you the best way to contact me when you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  I check it regularly and respond to e-mails within 24 hours.

Please remember that you should keep copies of all of your coursework and graded assignments, including all of your emails.

There are great resources available to help you with your writing in this course.  I recommend you take a look at Charlie's History Writing Center.  Professor Evans is a senior faculty member at NVCC and has some great tips to help students with their history writing, including information on citing sources, plagiarism, common grammar mistakes, etc.

Good luck in the coming semester and remember that there are no dumb questions!
