Instructor:
Text: ELEMENTARY STATISTICS 6TH EDITION, ALLAN G. BLUMAN
Prerequisites:
Math 152, MTH 163, MTH 182 or an appropriate placement test score.
Methods
of Instruction: The class will be structured around lectures,
discussions and
problem solving.
Attendance:
Attendance will be taken on a daily basis. Regular attendance and
punctuality
will be required. All
students who have not attended class
after the first two weeks will be dropped by the
instructor.
GRADING
POLICY: During the
semester you will be given three exams each worth 100 points and a
cumulative final exam worth 200 points. From the three exams taken
before
the final I will drop the lowest grade and keep your two highest
grades. The two highest grades will be added to your final exam grade.
The final exam grade
will
not be dropped and everyone will be required to take the final exam. In
addition, you will be given twelve minitab assignments to which a grade
of satisfactory or unsatisfactory will be assigned. Each satisfactory
will be worth two points and each unsatisfactory will be worth zero
points. I will drop your two lowest minitab assignments.
Therefore,
your grade will be based upon a total of 420 points as follows:
A = 378-420
B = 336-377
C = 294-335
D = 252-293
F below 252
THERE
WILL BE
NO MAKEUP EXAMS OR MAKEUP MINITAB ASSIGNMENTS GIVEN DURING THE
SEMESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you miss a
minitab assignment it will count as one of the mintab assignments to be
dropped. If
you miss an exam it will count as the exam to be dropped. If you miss
two exams
you should consider dropping the course. You will have a 100 point
deficit from
which it may be impossible to receive a passing grade.ALSO,
THERE WILL BE NO EARLY FINAL EXAM. EVERYONE WILL TAKE THE FINAL ON THE
DAY THAT
IT IS SCHEDULED. FAILURE TO TAKE THE FINAL DURING THE TIME IT IS
SCHEDULED WILL
RESULT IN A GRADE OF “F” FOR THE COURSE.
EXAMS: Each exam will be based upon assigned readings, homework and lectures. You must show all of your work to receive credit for a problem. Clarity and appearance will usually result in a higher score. FINALLY, ANYONE CAUGHT CHEATING ON AN EXAM WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF “F” FOR THE SEMESTER. CHEATING CONSIST OF GIVING AS WELL AS RECEIVING INFORMATION DURING AN EXAM OR COPYING FROM ANOTHER PERSON’S EXAM.
