Prerequisites: A satisfactory score on an appropriate proficiency examination and Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry or equivalent.

Those students who will register for MTH 173 a TI 89 should be used otherwise a TI 83 will be required.

Methods of Instruction: The class will be structured around lectures, discussions and problem solving.It is essential that you do your homework in order to benefit fully from this class.There will be a Help Session after each class from 1:20-2:20 pm in room AA456.

<>Attendance: Attendance will be taken at the start of each class. Regular attendance and punctuality will be required. Any student that fails  to attend after the first two weeks  will be drawn by the instructor. 

Grading Policy: During the semester you will be given four exams each worth 100 points and a cumulative final exam worth 200 points. From the four exams, I will drop your lowest grade and keep your three highest grades. Your three highest grades will be added to your final exam grade. The final exam will be cumulative and will not be dropped.Everyone will be required to take the final exam.f you miss an exam it will count as the exam to be dropped. If you miss two exams you should seriously consider dropping the course. You will have a 100 point deficit from which it may be impossible to receive a passing grade. Therefore, your grade will be based upon a total of 500 points as follows:

A = 450-500
B = 400-449
C = 350-399
D = 300-349
F below 300
 
<>THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP EXAMS OR EARLY FINAL EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN DURING THE SEMESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  EVERYONE WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE FINAL ON THE SAME DAY AT THE SAME TIME. THE FINAL EXAM WILL NOT BE DROPPED.  FAILURE TO TAKE THE  FINAL EXAM ON TH E REQUIRED DATE WILL RESULT IN A GRADE OF "F" FOR THE SEMESTER.I

Exams: Each exam will be based upon assigned readings, homework and lectures. You must show all of your work to receive credit for a problem. Clarity and appearance will usually result in a higher score. FINALLY ANYONE CAUGHT CHEATING WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF ‘F’ FOR THE COURSE! Cheating consist of giving as well as receiving information during an exam.

If you wish to withdraw from the course make sure that you officially withdraw through the registrar office. Do not simply stop coming to class. FAILURE TO OFFICIALLY WITHDRAW WILL RESULT IN A GRADE OF F FOR THE COURSE!! The last day to drop for a tuition refund is Sep 11. The last day to officially withdraw or change to an audit is Oct 31.
