Rasa Kastanauskaite considers the academic and career training she received through the Bellevue College-led consortium funding from the Department of Labor (DOL) to be life-changing. Her journey at NOVA began in March 2010. Rasa came to the U.S. with a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from her home country of Lithuania, and she had 15 years of sales and management work experience.
She immediately had to reinvent herself in this country, and adjust to a different culture and a new language. She also saw it as an opportunity to start again and do something different, and she chose to pursue nursing as her new career. Rasa enjoys making others feel better and helping to make a positive difference in their lives. It’s her way of giving back.
It has not been an easy road for Rasa. Like many other college students, she has had to balance her family and a job with her school studies. Rasa credits NOVA and her time management skills with overcoming those obstacles, allowing her to obtain valuable expertise in the health IT field. She received an offer to work at Inova Fairfax Hospital, and will soon leave her job at a supermarket to begin her new profession as a Clinical Technician thanks to the help of a Career Navigator who worked with her on her interview skills.
