Creating Web-Based Learning Materials: Theory and Practice
2004-2005
 
The Dogwood Project and the Technical Applications Center (TAC) of Northern Virginia Community College, under the sponsorship of Dr. Monica Sasscer, associate vice president for instructional technology, are jointly offering an institute in the 2004-2005 academic year: Creating Web-Based Learning Materials: Theory and Practice. This institute may be taken for graduate credit equivalent (three credits) in your teaching discipline or as a professional development activity The credits may be used as a criterion for promotion.

Participants will attend a series of 10 meetings and workshops structured around issues related to putting course content on the web. Activities include:

  • evaluating and editing original content for use in a college-level course and for usability in a web-based environment;
  • creating a web site;
  • participating in online discussions of the theory and practice of creating web-based learning materials;
  • contributing to peer reviews of other participants’ web sites.
Meetings will be held on Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Annandale Campus. There will be 3 meetings in the Fall (starting in mid-October) and 7 meetings in the Spring.
Twenty spaces are available. Selection criteria will be based on the quality of the proposed projects and their usefulness to the college community.
