2. Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at least four weeks prior to the tuition payment deadline. Use the online tutorial to help you complete the form.

3. Get a Copy of the NOVA Catalog

Be sure to check the online catalog and become familiar with college policies and degree requirements. Printed catalogs are available at Student Services Centers on NOVA campuses.

Most new students should take the English and math placement tests.

  • Tests are given at each campus testing center.
  • Photo ID and Student ID (found on your NOVACard) are required.
  • Allow approximately two hours for each test.

5. Participate in New Student Advising and Orientation Programs

Sign up for your Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) Session where you will learn the results of your placement tests, identify first semester courses and enroll in classes. Next, you need to attend New Student Orientation (NSO), where you will learn more about what it takes to succeed in college with special sessions on transfer preparation and financing your education. You will also have the opportunity to meet Student Services, faculty, administrators and fellow students.

6. Enroll for Classes

Enroll online with NOVAConnect. First-time students are encouraged to enroll in SDV 100 or another student development course during their first semester.

7. Pay Your Tuition

Pay online by credit card through NOVAConnect. When you enroll for classes, you must pay by the payment deadline. Unpaid classes may be dropped from your schedule.

8. Buy Your Books

    • Student permits are valid only in "B" lots.

    • Hourly pay parking is available in the garages for those without a current permit and ID card.
