Workspace - Normal View

PowerPoint offers three different Views, or ways of looking at your presentation. Each view has a specific purpose. Normal view is used when building slides. The Slide Sorter view is helpful for organizing the order in which slides appear on the screen. The Slide Show view is the view you use to show your presentation to an audience.

The default view is the Normal view. Your slides are displayed in the middle of the window.

On the left, you will see an outline of all the slides in your presentation. At the top of the outline are two tabs. One tab displays the slides as a text outline. The other displays them in visual form as small thumbnails. The slide that is selected in the outline will be displayed in the workspace. You know a slide is selected when it is surrounded by a thick, dark line. To select a slide, click once on that slide in the outline.

On the right side of the screen is room for the different panels that you will use to format slides, add animations and perform other important tasks. What is displayed on the right side of the window will change depending on what you are working on. You can even close the panels completely to give yourself more room.

At, the bottom of the screen is space for you to add in Speaker's Notes. Speaker's notes are not displayed when the presentation is being displayed in a slide show, but you can print them out and refer to them during your presentation. (For information on printing Notes Pages, go to the Printing Options page.)
