Designing Effective Presentations

Presentations That Bore You To Death

Many textbooks provide instructors with ready-made PowerPoint presentations. Their presentations follow the textbook nicely, but they can be stultifyingly boring. Frankly, if all you are going to do is read a series of slides to your students, why should they bother coming to class? They can read the PowerPoint themselves, at their convenience, in the comfort of their own home! Your PowerPoints should enhance your lecture- not act as a substitute.

Presentations That Kill You With Kitsch

At the opposite end of the spectrum are the presentations that we have all come to fear. These are the presentations that burn your eyes with garish colors, split your head with annoying noises and have so many things whizzing and spinning around the slide that the audience leaves the presentation feeling nauseous. Color, imagery and animations can enhance your presentation as long as you use them wisely. Fortunately, Angela Frnaklin has developed a kit to help you use all of PowerPoint's capability- tastefully.
