Protocols
NOVA is committed to creating a safe environment that promotes student success. This document outlines specific protocols for the implementation of Campus Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) teams on individual campuses.
-
Each campus, plus ELI, will support a CARE team chaired by the Dean of Students. For ELI, the team will be chaired by the Director of ELI.
-
Each team will consist of at least five members and will include representatives, when available, from student services, law enforcement, teaching faculty and administrative faculty.
-
Team members serve for a minimum period of one year. The team chair, in consultation with the appropriate administrative council member, will designate new team members. Membership will rotate so that the team always has a balance of new and old members.
-
There will be a college level CARE team responsible for the oversight of the program, including training and database management. For the 2009-2010 pilot year, the college team will consist of the Special Assistant for Student Mental Health and Behavior, the AVP for Student Services and Enrollment Management and a part time project assistant, as needed.
-
All team members will be trained on NOVA's assessment and intervention protocols.
-
The College will define "concerning behaviors" and train the community in reporting them.
-
The CARE teams will meet on a regular basis (non emergency) to review incident reports (IR).
-
For the 2009/2010 year, the college team will be automatically notified by email when an IR is submitted through the Maxient conduct manager program.
-
In an emergency situation, the college team, in consultation with the campus team will respond.
-
In a non-emergency situation, the college team will forward the case to the appropriate campus team who will then be responsible for all investigation and follow-up.
-
The campus team will use a feedback loop (within the database) to confirm to reporting employees that IRs are being acted upon.
-
The team will review and evaluate the IR using the NaBita assessment tool.
-
The team will develop an implementation and follow up plan.
-
Cases will be tracked using the Maxient conduct manager.
-
Reports will be generated as requested.
