HR Connections Orientation

HR Connections Orientation is NOVA's way of welcoming you to a dynamic environment that embraces and celebrates diverse talents and contributions. HR Connections Orientation is a three-tier orientation program that provides you with everything you need to know as you begin your NOVA career.

All new employees are expected to attend orientation on their first day of employment or as soon as possible after beginning work at NOVA. Hourly P-14 employees are invited to a separate orientation that is geared towards their type of employment.

Your supervisor will register you for orientation and Human Resources will provide you with that information. If you have not received orientation information before your first day of work, please refer to the Who to Contact section below to find appropriate contact information for each orientation.

Where and When to Go

This orientation is conducted twice a month on the 10th and 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The program starts promptly at 9:00 a.m.

The primary location for orientation is 3926 Pender Drive, Suite 150, Fairfax, VA 22030. The location of the second part of orientation varies depending on the campus where the new employee works. 

Where to Park

Parking for the primary HR Connections Orientation in Fairfax does not require a parking permit. However, when the orientation continues on a campus, you will be given a parking permit along with information as to where you are allowed to park.

What to Expect

HR Connections orientation is divided into two main themes -- Welcome to NOVA and Welcome to Campus. During this orientation, you will learn the following:

  • NOVA’s history and mission,
  • benefits of being a NOVA employee,
  • how NOVA keeps its employees happy and engaged,
  • how to be a successful NOVA employee,
  • how to complete new employee paperwork and get started in your NOVA career.

You will also meet guest speakers from Human Resources, College Police and other departments.

What to Bring

All new staff members are asked to return their employment paperwork to Human Resources prior to orientation so we can prepare for your arrival. Please bring a copy of your documents that you submitted as backup along with:

  • identification for I-9 employment eligibility verification,
  • social security numbers of dependents for benefits enrollment,
  • supervisor name, department name and department phone number

What to Wear

Business casual attire or work clothes/uniform are recommended for all orientations.

Attendees will have a break between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for lunch and travel time to their campuses. Lunch is not provided by the College.
