Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Member Benefit Profiles Distributed Online

Beginning this year, VRS participants will receive their annual benefit statement, the VRS Member Benefit Profile (MBP), online using their secure myVRS account.  Employees who have not created a secure myVRS account as yet, may use the following link to do so: https://www.varetire.org/myVRS/.      Your MPB will be available in your my VRS account on September 1, 2009.

Professional Development News

NOVA’s Professional Development Unit will host an Open House on each campus during the month of September for NOVA faculty, adjunct faculty and classified employees. Come and hear about NOVA’s professional development plan, how to request tuition assistance, access professional development funds, and how to navigate NOVA’s faculty promotion process.  Or, just stop by for some light refreshments and to say hello to the HR professional development staff.  Each Open House will run from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm as follows.  Be on the lookout for your campus announcement and a flyer that will list the agenda for the day.

Employment News

Human Resources has recently implemented an electronic application process.  This process will allow hiring supervisors to review applicant materials via Denosys.  We are in the testing phase of implementation.  Watch for announcements regarding training for access to this new feature.

October 10, 2008

October is the open-enrollment month for the college’s UNUM Disability Income Plan. During this month, eligible college employees can enroll for the first time or change their protected earnings percentage, e.g., from 50% to 40% or vice versa or to the lower rate of 25%.

Eligible employees are salaried employees who are not participants in the Virginia Sickness & Disability Plan. Enrollments during the open-enrollment month are not subject to any medical review and coverage becomes effective January 1, 2009. Premiums for the coverage are paid by the employee and do not have a pretax option.

All forms should be returned to the attention of the benefits staff in the Human Resources Office.
