Doing Business With Facilities
The Office of Facilities Planning and all the campus Buildings & Grounds offices are dedicated to providing help and support to the faculty, staff, students and visitors of NOVA. Some of the services we provide include:
- Maintenance/Repair - Campus Buildings & Grounds offices are responsible for maintenance and repairs to all buildings, utilities and parking lots on each campus. If you notice a maintenance issue, contact the Facility Manager on your campus.
- Grounds Upkeep/Snow Removal - Campus Buildings & Grounds offices maintain all grounds and are responsible for snow removal during inclement weather.
- Safety - Facilities Planning administers the College safety program. The annual Safety Program, as well as the Safety information in each issue of the Intercom are prepared and presented by the Office of Facilities Planning. If you have safety-related issues, contact your campus Facility Manager, or Roger Tancreti, the Assistant Director for Administration & Logistics at 703.323.3551.
- Janitorial Services - The College janitorial services are supervised by campus Buildings & Grounds offices. If you have cleaning issues, contact your campus Facility Manager.
- Transportation - Facilities Planning maintains the college motor pool, including a small fleet of vehicles available for use by college employees for work-required travel. For more information about the College motor pool or vehicle availability, contact the Assistant Director for Administration and Logistics, or Cathy Magalis at 703.323.2261.
- Client Services - A client is a member of the Faculty or Staff who initiates and funds a project. Facilities Planning manages and provides consultation for Client projects. For more information about Client projects, contact your campus Facility Manager.
- New Construction/Renovation - Facilities Planning programs and manages construction of new buildings and parking structures. Renovation projects modernize existing facilities, and new construction provides need classroom and office space.
A Project Request is required for any work that modifies building systems. Structural work, such as moving load bearing walls, or electrical work, such as installing new outlets requires a Project Request. This type of work is usually regulated by the building code and usually requires an inspection.
A Work Request is required for jobs that do not modify building systems or work that is considered routine maintenance and repair. Hanging pictures, changing light bulbs and replacing existing hardware all require Work Requests. If you are unsure of whether the service you need requires a work request or a project request, call the Building & Grounds office on your campus, they’ll be glad to help you!
