Rules
NOVA Idol (college students) contestants must be enrolled in at least one NOVA course during Spring Semester of 2010. This includes dual enrolled students.
The High School NOVA Idol (high school students) contestants must be enrolled in one of the area high schools.
Registration fee is $10 for college and high school students.
All contestants must submit an Audition Application Form on-line before by October 30, 2009. The Release Form will be submitted at the time of auditions. Auditions will be held at each campus during November 2-5, 2009. See the campus dates below.

Each contestant must sing without accompaniment for no longer than two minutes at a local campus on a designated date during November 2-5, 2009. All contestants will be videotaped.
Thirty college students will be chosen as semi-finalists. The Executive Committee may select ten additional contestants as wild card semi-finalists.
Ten high school students will be chosen as semi-finalists. The Executive Committee will select three additional contestants as wild card semi-finalists.
Semi-finalists and finalists for NOVA Idol and High School NOVA Idol must be prepared for honest and professional evaluative comments. Emotional reactions are inappropriate at this level of competition. If you cannot handle stress such as pointers about your weaknesses, the NOVA Idol Executive Committee urges you to reconsider your participation in the contest.
NOVA Idol winners: first, second, and third place winners are expected to perform at NOVA and other public events for two years after winning the contest.
High School NOVA Idol winners: first, second, and third place winners may be asked to perform at NOVA and other public events for one year after winning the contest.
Wild Card Selections
On Monday, November 9, 2009, the Executive Committee will review recordings from the auditions for NOVA Idol and High School NOVA Idol. They will look over top individual scores from campus judges and may contact contestants who scored very high, but did not make the list of semi-finalists. Ten of the college contestants may be chosen as wild card choices, thus possibly totaling forty semi-finalists (30 from the first audition and 10 wild card choices.) Three high school contestants will be chosen as wild card choices, thus totaling thirteen semi-finalists (10 from the first audition and 3 wild card choices). On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, all semi-finalists will be notified and their names posted on the website.

The semi-finalists must complete the Application for Semi-finalists by November 24, 2009.

All the semi-finalists will send one instrumental CD or email one mp3 file of the song they will sing to the NOVA Idol coordinator by January 16, 2009. This will be used when they sing at the Tyler Gym, Friday, January 22, 2010. The public will be invited to attend the performance of the semi-finalists, but will not be invited to vote. Judges will select 6 NOVA Idol finalists (one from each campus) and 2 High School finalists.
Note: The NOVA Idol finalists MUST be enrolled in at least one course (1-5 credits) at NOVA during the Spring 2010 Semester. All college finalists will be verified for course enrollment. The Executive Committee will select three more college students and one more high school student, thus a total of 12 finalists.

Finalists will rehearse with a vocal coach. They should bring a recorder to capture the instructions and suggestions offered by the coach.
March 2010
All finalists will rehearse with the band prior to the rehearsal in Schlesinger Center on March 25. Finalists will be contacted with specific dates and times by the band for therehearsals. Finalists should bring a recorder to capture all rehearsals.
March 25, 2010
Finalists will rehearse on the Schlesinger stage (30-minute time limit) with the live band. A schedule will be provided to those chosen as semi-finalists. BE ON TIME for the rehearsal, THERE WILL BE NO RESCHEDULING. Finalists should bring a recorder to capture this rehearsal.
March 26, 2010
Finalists must wear semi-formal attire for the competition scheduled from 7-10 P.M. Finalists will be accompanied by the band on March 26. The votes of both audience and judges will be tallied to choose the first, second, and third place winners for NOVA Idol (college students) and High School NOVA Idol (high school students).
