Located close to the nation’s capital, Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is Virginia’s largest institution of higher education and one of America’s largest community colleges. Enrolling 65,000 students in 2008-09 on its 6 campuses and Extended Learning Institute, NOVA serves the higher and post-secondary educational needs of students from over 170 nations enrolled in over 100 degree and certifi cate programs. The Alexandria Campus, including the Arlington Center, annually serves approximately 17,000 students in the credit and approximately 3,000 students in the non-credit programs. The Alexandria Campus embraces the rich diversity of the multicultural area that it serves and demonstrates its commitment to student success by fostering an environment of world-class teaching and learning. With strong emphases in the arts, languages, physical and social sciences, and business and IT programs, the campus has four academic divisions which provide offerings in transfer and occupational/technical programs, a comprehensive academic support and student services program, and a growing continuing education and workforce development program. The Alexandria Campus has approximately 170 full-time and nearly 650 part-time teaching faculty and approximately 150 staff.
The successful candidate will be an educator with the following qualities: a demonstrated record of academic, executive and administrative leadership; experience in building and effectively managing strong academic programs and student services focused upon student success; a capable leader interested in change; a commitment to community engagement and building partnerships with the community; experience in and commitment to excellence in teaching; experience in working in and fostering a diverse, multicultural, and international community; skilled in management, budgeting, controls and operational procedures; effective communicator; team player with a collaborative leadership style; skilled in effective use of information technology for administrative and instructional purposes; and active participation in daily campus activities.
