Other positions will be announced soon.

Each of our National Executive search positions will report directly to the President, serving as senior members of the Administrative Council. The "standard" application procedures are not applicable to this position.  Please follow the application methods described below. 

The College

Located close to the nation’s capital, Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is Virginia’s largest institution of higher education and one of America’s largest community colleges. The Campus

The Medical Education Campus (MEC) www.nvcc.edu/medical  is a technologically sophisticated specialized campus dedicated to the education and preparation of Nursing and Allied Health professionals with a strong commitment to workforce development and continuing education. Associate Degrees are offered in Nursing (RN), Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT-ASCP), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), Radiography-Diagnostic Imaging (RT-R), Respiratory Therapy (CRT) and (RRT), Health Information Technology (RHIT), Dental Hygiene (RDH), and Emergency Medical Services (EMT-P).  Diagnostic Medical Sonography  is expected to begin in the Fall 2008. Credit Certificate Programs are offered in: Radiation Oncology, Clinical Coding, Medical Transcription, Phlebotomy, and Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B). Advanced Certificate Programs (RT-R required) are offered in: Breast Imaging, Computer Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Numerous pre-employment and healthcare career enhancement programs are offered by the MEC’s Workforce and Continuing Education Division. Distinctive aspects of the MEC include: Academic Partnerships with Universities, State-of the-Art facility design and medical equipment, a 32 Chair Dental Clinic, Digital radiography, Distance education classrooms, a Cadaver laboratory, a Human Patient Simulators laboratory, Community-Based Network Clinics, Technologically sophisticated classrooms, laboratories, Learning Resource Center and student services. Most significantly is that the MEC has a cadre of exceptional and dedicated faculty and staff. 

The Position:

The MEC Provost reports directly to the College President and is a member of the College’s Administrative Council. The MEC Provost provides the executive and academic leadership for the MEC with the goal of developing the nation’s premier community college training and educational programs in nursing and allied health. The College specifically has a vision of developing a national leadership role in Health Information Management. This position has an inherent and essential community leadership responsibility of working with the regions health care industry and multiple stakeholders to identify and respond to the critical healthcare workforce shortage in Northern Virginia. The MEC Provost responsibilities, in addition to those of academic leadership, include the supervision and/or coordination of budgeting; personnel management and recruitment of faculty, staff and adjuncts; property management; safety and emergency planning for the campus; as well as program development and specialized accreditation.  

Additional responsibilities:

• The development and operation of outreach efforts into minority, immigrant and low-income communities to increase their access to entry into healthcare careers.
• Working with the Executive Vice President, develops and implements enrollment plans that meets MEC enrollment targets and that aligns with NoVaHealthFORCE www.NoVaHealthFORCE.org  action plan for increasing graduates in health fields.
• Plays a leadership role in NoVaHealthFORCE working with the region’s health systems to identify and respond to critical workforce needs in Northern Virginia.
• Working with the Vice President for Workforce Development, plans and offers a comprehensive program of professional continuing education and workforce training that meets Workforce and Continuing Education enrollment and revenue targets and serves the health services industry in Northern Virginia.
• Provides leadership in translating the college’s NOVA 2015: Gateway to the American Dream strategic plan (and the VCCS Dateline 2009) into the Medical Education Campus’ strategic plan through 2015, focusing upon its role in achieving goals in the areas of student success, access, teaching and learning, excellence, leadership, partnerships, and resources.
• Develops a written strategic plan for the MEC. The campus strategic plan identifies how the campus will grow and how it will leverage existing assets in the process of creating nationally-recognized programs and services and developing a reputation for excellence.
• Working with the college’s Achieving the Dream initiative, develops and implements specific actions that strengthen student success in the areas of retention/persistence, graduation, and transfer.
• Works with the Executive Vice President and the Vice President for Administration and Finance to finalize and implement a financing strategy that allows for sustaining the MEC and brings campus staffing and other support into alignment with that strategy.
• Increases the number and percentage of recent high school graduates enrolling at the MEC.
• Implements dual enrollment offerings with Northern Virginia schools where feasible.

Education, Certification Licenses, Credentials or Experience: 

• An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited educational institution. A degree as a medical or dental doctor may be considered in conjunction with other aspects of educational background.
• Demonstrated ability and experience in managing a large complex matrix organization, including the ability to plan, lead and manage staff, develop and manage budgets and a strong commitment and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other stakeholders in the college and the community at large.
• Experience in community college teaching and administration or a demonstrated understanding of the purpose and philosophy of community colleges.
• Demonstrated leadership positions in health care and/or education.
• An understanding of health care delivery systems and the workforce needs of these systems.
• A commitment to minority, immigrant, and low-income communities to increase their access to health careers.
• Knowledge of financial strategies that sustain medical education.
• Experience in health care enrollment planning, recruitment, and retention.
• Experience in the development and planning of comprehensive professional continuing education and workforce training.
