SPD 130 - INTRODUCTION TO THE THEATRE (3 CR.)

COURSE INFORMATION

Explores the principles of drama and the development of theatre as an art. Examines selected plays in terms of theatrical presentation and the living theatre as evidenced on stage. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Provides students a preliminary overview of the elements that enter into the collective art of theatre, from the play to the actor, styles of production, organization of the company, and its artistry and craft.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Fluency in Standard American English. Recommend proficiency in reading and writing at English 111 level.

COURSE OBJECTIVES/EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME

Provides students with a general background in the development of drama and the theatre arts from the Greeks to the present day. Students will also understand the organization of a dramatic production.
