COURSE DESCRIPTION

Continues procedures for positioning the patient's anatomical structures relative to x-ray beam and image receptor. Emphasizes procedures for routine examinations of the skull, contrast studies of internal organs, and special procedures employed in the more complicated investigation of the human body. Lecture 3 hours. Lab 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The general purpose of this course is topographic bony anatomy of the cranium and the study of the body systems. Radiographic positions, which demonstrate this anatomy, are discussed in lecture and demonstrated in a required 3 hours laboratory section.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Completion of RAD 121 with a grade of "C".

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course the student will demonstrate and show proficiency through laboratory technique in the following:

A. Topographic anatomy of the cranium and facial bones.

B. Anatomy of the following body systems:

1. digestive
2. respiratory
3. urinary
4. male/female reproductive

C. Position and obtain adequate radiographs for the following:

1. cranial and facial bones
2. digestive system
3. respiratory system
4. male/female reproductive systems
5. urinary system

A. Topographic anatomy of skull and facial bones

B. Anatomy of the body systems

C. Routine and special radiographic positions related to the skull and body systems.

A. Film identification of anatomy and positioning.

B. Pathologies/congenital anomalies related to the anatomy studied in the course.
