PHT 211 - COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY I (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduces theory, materials, and processes of modern color images. Includes additive and subtractive theory, color filtration, negative printing techniques and use of color transparency materials. Lecture 2 hours.  Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

To provide students with a fundamental and practical introduction to color photography. Use of color transparency materials and basic color printing techniques will be colored.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Students must have successfully completed PHT 101, 102, 110.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students should become familiar with the fundamentals of color photography through assignments dealing with exposure and filtration of both color transparency materials and color negative materials and the printing of color negatives.

MAJOR TOPICS TO BE COVERED

Topics will include:

    1. color materials
    2. color theory
    3. exposure and development of color films
    4. color balance
    5. correction and filtration
    6. printing color negatives
Course focuses on the use of color materials as a tool for communication and a form of personal expression.

EXTRA TOPICS
