PED 171 - BALLROOM
DANCE I (1 CR.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Presents fundamental
step patterns, rhythmic patterns and positions of ballroom dance. Includes
techniques based upon traditional steps with basic choreographic patterns.
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 1 hour. Total 2 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this
course is to introduce the student to basic dancing steps with emphasis
on ballroom-style dancing.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of
this course the student will be able to:
A. analyze different
dance tempos and perform the dance with the music.
B. demonstrate the
ballroom dances using the correct rhythm footwork, and dance position.
C. recognize the style
of music and the type of dance to perform to the music.
MAJOR ELEMENTS OF CONTENT
A. Basic footwork
for the Foxtrot, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Polka, Swing , Rumba, Merengue, Samba
and Tango.
B. Rhythmic awareness.
