PED 123 - TENNIS I (1 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Teaches tennis skills with emphasis on stroke development and strategies for individual and double play. Includes rules, scoring, terminology, and etiquette. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 1 hour. Total 2 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Introduces the fundamentals, skills, strategies, and rules of tennis.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

A. execute basic tennis strokes: ground strokes, volley, serve
B. demonstrate a knowledge of rules, scoring procedures, and terminology
C. practice beginning drills for developing skills for games
MAJOR TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED
    A. Demonstrate a knowledge of grips
    B. Demonstrate the forehand and backhand ground strokes, volley, service, and lobs
    C. Demonstrate a knowledge of scoring, etiquette, rules, and terminology
    D. Demonstrate presentation of practice drills of the above skills
    E. Demonstrate conditioning drills
    F. Development of singles and doubles play
