PED 105 - AEROBIC DANCE I (1 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Focuses on aerobic fitness through dance exercises. Emphasizes the development of cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Lecture 1 hour.  Laboratory 1 hour.  Total 2 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of this course is to increase an individual's aerobic capacity. This is accomplished by elevating an individual's heart rate during exercise to a level that will increase cardiovascular efficiency. The course will focus on monitoring the student's heart rate during rest, during activity, and after performing dance routines. The course will include warm-ups and stretching routines, active dance combinations, and cool downs.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

A. perform dance routines to reach and sustain the target zone for heart rate response.
B. perform cardiovascular movements to music.
C. understand how to monitor exercise exertion.
D. improve aerobic capacity.
E. understand the importance of aerobic activity to the cardiovascular system.
