COURSE DESCRIPTION
Studies numerical control systems. Includes application of numerical control to standard machine tools, numerical control systems, NC coordinate system, APT systems, two-dimensional machine process, three-dimensional machine process, flexible manufacturing role of robotics in automated manufacturing. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
To give the student a basic understanding of numerical control programming and its use and application to manufacturing processes. To acquaint the student with writing basic NC programs.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES
Basic competency in the use of machine tools and in general computer programming. Prerequisites: MEC 120 and MEC 127 or equivalent.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, the student will have a basic understanding of numerical control programming including the use of NC equipment with the computer and how these are related to the manufacturing and design phases of mechanical technology. The student will also be able to write and understand basic numerical control programs and to understand their use and application.
