COURSE INFORMATION
Introduces the organization of the health care delivery system with emphasis on types of providers and the role that accrediting and licensing bodies play in the delivery of health care. Lecture l hour per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to give the student an introduction to the health care field with emphasis on the organizational structure of health institutions such as hospitals, HMO's, ambulatory surgi-centers, care continuums and long term care facilities. In addition, the student will learn of the external constraints placed on these institutions by federal, state and local agencies, as well as private accrediting bodies. The role of the health record as documentary evidence in this process will be discussed.
