HIS 101-102 - HISTORY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION (3 CR.) (3CR.)



COURSE DESCRIPTION

Examines the development of western civilization from ancient times to the present. HIS 101 is a survey of ancient and medieval western civilizations. HIS 102 is a survey of modern Europe. Preferable, but not mandatory, that courses be taken sequentially. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Provide students with a basic understanding of the development of western civilization and helps students fulfill College’s general education requirements. HIS 101-102 are included in the VCCS transfer module.

ENTRY-LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Ability to use English language correctly and effectively at the college-entry level is expected. No history pre-requisites.

3. Promote and encourage students’ computer proficiency.

Although the year course is generally based as stated above, there is enough flexibility to allow for the inclusion of pertinent topics and the use of innovative methods.
