ART 253-254 - DESIGN III-IV (4 CR.) (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Applies basic design concepts to complex problems. Introduces related research as appropriate. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The course is intended for future professional artists and fine arts teachers. The second year design sequence gives the student the opportunity to apply basic design concepts to more complex problems, and to develop a questioning and problem solving method of thinking.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Prerequisites for this course are ART 131-132 - "Fundamentals of Design I-II". Divisional permission may be granted to the student on the basis of a portfolio review, experience in design, or general proven professional ability.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the second year of Design (Art 253. Art 254), the student will have completed a series of work assigned by the instructor including the development of independent works which stimulate growth toward artistic maturity.

MAJOR TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED

    1. The student will develop a capacity for creative resourcefulness and the ability to theorize and experiment
    2. The student will use materials and techniques as they relate to visual and structural concepts
    3. The student will become more aware of developments in the design and fine art fields through museum and gallery visits, research, and /or reading assignments
