ART 241-242 - PAINTING
I-II (4 CR.) (4 CR.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduces abstract
and representational painting in acrylic and/or oil with emphasis on color,
composition, and value. Possible field trip. Lecture 2 hours. Studio instruction
4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this
course is to increase the ability to investigate and experiment with visual
communication in painting, as well as apply established theories, concepts
and media importance to the development of the student's own art.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES
Prerequisite is ART
121-122 - "Drawing I-II" or divisional permission.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of
the course, the student should be able to:

demonstrate a basic understanding
of the process involved in creating a three-dimensional illusion on a two-dimensional
surface

demonstrate a creative
and self-critical approach in developing paintings

demonstrate an understanding
of the relationships between class work and the Art of the past and present

develop an individualized
awareness of the relationships between concept, visual effects, techniques,
and media in painting

painting and begin expression of individual concepts, feeling, viewpoints,
style, and techniques
