ART 236 - SCULPTURAL CERAMICS (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Explores the design and production of sculptural ceramics, including hand building and use of the wheel. Lecture 2 hours. Studio instruction 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of the ceramic course is to study various hand building and wheel throwing techniques utilized in the creation of sculptural ceramic forms. Emphasis will be on craftsmanship and creativity with special attention given to total concept; from idea to finished product.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Prerequisite is ART 154 - "Ceramics II" or permission of instructor.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Development of various construction techniques as they relate to the design and production of sculptural ceramic forms.

MAJOR TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED

    1. Study of figurative ceramic sculpture
    2. Study of building techniques with and without armatures
    3. Study of relief techniques
EXTRA TOPICS (optional)
