COURSE DESCRIPTION
Surveys the visual arts and crafts of prehistoric and early cultures. Includes primitive civilizations in Africa, the Americas, Oceania, and Australia. Lecture 3 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to give the art history and studio art student knowledge in understanding of the nature of the art of non-technological societies, their social function, aesthetic qualities, and significance for twentieth century art.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES
The art history survey is recommended, although not required.
