ADJ 186 – FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY (3 CR.)
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduces student to the constructs of criminal psychology. Introduces the student to the exploration of criminal investigative analysis, VI-CAP, mental disorders and the etiology of certain criminal behaviors. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

To provide the student with an understanding of the etiologies of criminal behavior.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

    A. critically analyze the variability in violent and nonviolent crime;

    B. the criteria applied in designating sexual and deviant offenses;

    C. the pattern of addiction; and

    D. criminal behavior as it relates to insanity, as well as, more definitive objectives deriving from the specific chapter topics; and VI-CAP psychological assessment.

B. Retributive theory of punishment

C. Capital punishment

D. Conscious-willing choice vs. Irresistible impulse

E. Sexual offenses, pornography, and prostitution

F. White collar crime

G. Mental disorders

H. Violent and nonviolent crimes, including VI-CAP psychological assessment
