SPA 202 - INTERMEDIATE
SPANISH II (3 CR.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Continue to develop understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Lecture 3 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of Intermediate Spanish is to enable the student to become more proficient in speaking and understanding Spanish in a greater variety of situations. The student will learn the more complex structures of the Spanish language. The student will also learn to read and write without recourse to translations.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCY
The prerequisite for this course is SPA 201 - "Intermediate Spanish I" or equivalent.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
A. Listening
The student sustains understanding on a variety of topics pertaining to different times and places; (however, understanding may be incomplete.)
The student will be able to use circumlocution to compensate for limited vocabulary.
The student begins to use connected discourse, particularly for simple narration or description.
The speaker can generally be understood even by natives not accustomed to dealing with speakers at this level. (although repetition may still be required.)
The student begins to understand authentic material such as newspaper or magazine articles upon reading it more than once.
The student can write simple letters, brief synopses and paraphrases, summaries of biographical data, work and school experience.
The student begins to describe and narrate in coherent paragraphs.
(The student's writing, though faulty, is generally comprehensible to natives used to the writing of nonnatives.)
