COURSE DESCRIPTION

Teaches oral communication and introduces cultural mores and customs to students with no prior instruction in the language. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Basic Spoken Spanish I is a conversational course for students with no previous Spanish. The focus is on communication skills, practical vocabulary and cultural patterns.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCY

Functional fluency in English.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1. understand simple spoken Spanish within the limited context presented in the course
2. engage in conversation and provide and obtain information
3. learn to read simple Spanish
4. develop an awareness of cultural patterns in Spanish-speaking countries
