GRE 101-102 - INTRODUCTION TO ANCIENT GREEK I-II (3 CR.) (3 CR.)
Introduces ancient Greek language. Designed to prepare the student for early readings in Hellenic or Hellenistic literature. Lecture 3 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
Students learn to function in the language within a limited context of vocabulary and structures. The course includes a general introduction to Greek culture and literary selections from Hellenic, Hellenistic, or Homeric literature.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCY
Functional fluency in English. It is suggested that the student be qualified for English 111.
The student will learn the structure of the Greek language in a prescribed sequence beginning with the simplest structures and working toward the more complex. Students learn correct Greek pronunciation.
The development of the awareness of cultural patterns, including historical developments, and contributions to the arts and sciences.
