NVCC COLLEGE-WIDE COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY

DRF 238 - COMPUTER AIDED MODELING AND RENDERING I (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Focuses on training students in advanced techniques of 3D modeling, rendering, and animation on personal computers. Introduces the principles of visualization, sometimes known as photo-realism, which enables the student to create presentation drawings for both architectural and industrial product designs. Uses computer animation to produce walk-through that will bring the third dimension to architectural design. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Enabling students to develop better understanding of three-dimensional drawings as well as producing presentations through computer and electronic media.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Basic technical drawing and CAD exposure. Prerequisite: DRF 232

COURSE OBJECTIVES AND EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME

Upon completion of this course the students will be able to:

    1. Generate a three dimensional model from a two-dimensional drawing.
    2. Provide various pictorial views of the model generated.
    3. Apply surface and material as well as light for the model.
    4. Develop a rendering of a typical electronic model.
MAJOR TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED
    1. Basic three-dimensional drawing
    2. Three-dimensional surfaces
    3. Solids
    4. Material systems
    5. Lighting systems
    6. Three-dimensional rendering
