Firearms/Weapons Policy
Firearms and dangerous weapons of
any type are NOT PERMITTED on or in campus facilities,
except when carried by bona fide law enforcement officers
in their official capacities. Intentional use, possession,
or sale of firearms or other dangerous weapons is strictly
forbidden and is a violation of college policy as stated
in the Student Handbook and Employee Handbook.
Alcohol and Drug Policy
Students or employees of a Virginia
community college shall not possess, sell, use, manufacture,
give away or otherwise distribute illegal substances
including drugs, or, where prohibited, alcohol while
on campus, attending a college-sponsored off-campus
event, or while serving as a representative of the
college at off-campus meetings. Students or employees
who violate this policy will have College charges processed
against them in the normal manner of due process provided
by College rules. Further, students or employees who
violate this policy and in addition commit a criminal
offense, will be brought to the attention of the NOVA
Police or other appropriate law enforcement agency
and, if warranted, prosecution will be pursued.
Timely Warning Policy
Should a situation arise that constitutes
an ongoing threat, a campus-wide "timely warning" will
be issued. It is NOVA policy to post these notices
on bulletin boards on campus and/or make e-mail notifications
to faculty and students.
Policies and Procedures Concerning
Security, Access and Maintenance of Campus Facilities
Campus buildings and equipment are
maintained by NOVA Facilities personnel and are patrolled
by the Campus Police. College campuses, including buildings,
grounds, and roadways, are maintained with concern
for safety and security. Campus buildings and equipment
are inspected regularly, needed repairs are promptly
made and any potential hazards promptly addressed.
Campus buildings are secured each
evening when classes are finished, and opened daily by
Campus Police. |
