College Safety Report

Campus Police

Each NOVA campus has a Police and Public Safety Office. The police or college security patrol college buildings and grounds, 24 hours a day, on foot, bicycle, and in vehicles, in support of the public safety goal of the college.

NOVA's police officers are sworn and vested with full law enforcement powers and responsibility. Their training, authority, and responsibilities are identical to those of any other police officer in Virginia. NOVA police have the authority to enforce all college and commonwealth regulations and laws, to issue citations, and to make arrests.

At NOVA we are proud of our professionally trained and supervised police department. Our police officers are graduates of state-affiliated regional criminal justice training academies and are certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as police officers, trained in all phases of law enforcement. They attend in-service training to remain certified and to stay current on all changes in the law enforcement field.

Reports of violations of laws and regulations should be made promptly to the campus police to ensure that all appropriate services are rendered in a timely fashion.
