Tests, Quizzes and Surveys

Tests & Quizzes | Surveys | Testing Center

Tests and surveys are online assessments that are used to measure a student’s understanding of the course. Tests are graded while surveys are not.

Tests & Quizzes

While instructors may have both tests and quizzes in a course, both are functionally the same in Blackboard. Tests and quizzes should be clearly labeled or your instructor should indicate where the test or quiz is located for you to take it.

Before you click on a test's title to open it, be sure that you are prepared to take the test. Many instructors only allow one chance to take a test and you will not know that until you open the test.

  • Click on the title of the test or quiz.
  • If a password is required, you will be prompted at this point to enter it.
  • Click OK to indicate that you want to take the test or quiz now.
  • Follow the directions and save your answers as you go. Be mindful of any time limits or backtracking restrictions.
  • Answer each question. Remember to save your answers as you go.
  • When you are done, click Submit. If you have not answered all the questions, Blackboard will notify of the unanswered questions. If you have answered all, Blackboard will ask you to confirm your Submit.
  • Click OK to confirm assessment submission.

You may or may not be able to see your grade, see corrected answers or receive feedback as each instructor has different preferences and some instructors wait until everyone has had a chance to take the test or quiz before returning any results.

Surveys

Similar to tests and quizzes, Blackboard surveys are assessments made up of questions to measure student understanding but are not graded. Surveys should be clearly labeled or your instructor should indicate where the survey is located for you to take it.

Your instructor can administer tests, surveys and quizzes in Blackboard. Surveys can include Fill in the Blank, Matching, True/False, Multiple-Choice, Multiple Answer or Essay Questions.

To Take a Survey:

  • Click on the title of the survey.
  • If a password is required, you will be prompted at this point to enter it.
  • Click OK to indicate that you do want to take the survey now.
  • Follow the directions and save your answers as you go.
  • Answer each question.
  • When you are done, click Submit. If you have not answered all the questions, Blackboard will notify of the unanswered questions. If you have answered all, Blackboard will ask you to confirm your Submit.

Testing Center

Students enrolled in ELI courses, as well as some campus-based courses, will take their exams on a computer in a Testing Center. If you are scheduled to take an ELI test at a Testing Center, make sure that you call the Center ahead of time to verify they are open and that you have everything you need to take the exam.
