First Year Experience
We are thrilled that you have chosen to begin your college studies with us. To provide you with support and information for success, we invite you to participate in a program called the First Year Experience (FYE).
The goal of the FYE program is to provide first-year students with academic, career and social support because we know that your first year in college is important and can determine your future success.
The FYE includes:
- Student Orientation Advising & Registration (SOAR) Sessions
- New Student Orientation (NSO) Sessions
- Student Development/College Success Courses (ex. SDV 100)
- FYE Convocation
- GPS for Success Advising
- Common Experiences
- Peer Mentoring
There are three Cs that guide the FYE program and they are:
Connecting
NOVA students must be connected to the campus, the resources and information they need to negotiate the College.
Critical Thinking
NOVA students will be challenged with academic and student development experiences they need to grow intellectually, academically and personally.
Community Building
NOVA students will feel a sense of community on campus through intentional student development and co-curricular programs like student activities, mentoring, peer mentoring and orientation.
