First Year Student Checklist for Success

Your 1st Semester Checklist Plan Ahead:
	Apply for Financial Aid
	Apply for Admission
	Complete Placement Tests
	Contact College Board for AP scores
Once Admitted:
	Attend a Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) Session
	RSVP and attend New Student Orientation.
	Apply for Admission to FYE
	Get your NOVA ID Card.
	Purchase the NOVA Parking Pass
	Log into your NOVAConnect account
	Register for classes and sign up for FYE SDV 100.
	Pay for your classes before the drop date.
	Participate in the campus Welcome Back Activities.
Get Involved:
	Register for FYE Convocation.
	Participate in academic advising, declare a major and get assigned an advisor.
	Meet with your advisor.
	Attend classes.
	Meet with your professors to discuss academic progress.
	Check schedule for the last day to withdraw from classes without grade penalty
	Visit Student Activities for a list of clubs.
	Participate in FYE events.
	Meet with your Peer Mentor.
Prepare for Second Semester:
	Participate in the Academic Advising Week for second semester courses.
	Register for second semester courses.
	Pay for second semester classes or make sure financial aid has been approved.
	Attend end of semester FYE activity.
	Check your final grades in NOVAConnect.

What to do?
	Apply for Financial Aid for the next school year.
	Follow up with deciding on your career plans or meet with a career counselor.
	Get program placed aka "declare a major."
	Meet your faculty advisor.
	Attend a FYE social networking event.
	Visit the Tutoring Center, Library and Student Activities Office.
	Log into NOVAConnect and review your degree.
	Progress Report and enrollment date for the Fall semester.
	Meet with an advisor to select classes for the next semester.
	Register for classes.
	Visit the Student Services or Counseling Center on campus or meet with an advisor.
	Register for classes.
	Confirm Financial Aid or sign up for the payment plan.
	Check your grades in NOVAConnect.
