Green Committee Achievements

Conservation and recycling efforts are part of current college practices, and new initiatives are being made to intensify those efforts. Here are some of the actions that your NOVA colleagues have already taken. We welcome your contributions in
making NOVA a greener place too.

Organization of a Climate Change symposium (Focus The Nation) on every campus in winter 2008.

Advising for the construction of more energy-efficient, environmentally friendly buildings on the Annandale and Loudoun campuses of Northern Virginia Community College. The committee has offered advice on “green” issues at various times to offices and campuses at NOVA.We’ve generally been the “think tank” so far on how to help NOVA go green.

Collection of information about college practices and promoting awareness of environmental considerations in decision-making about construction, maintenance and operations.

Considered and wrote the NOVA statement of principles.

Worked to publicize green activities and principles.

Started work on how to make recycling more effective. A top priority of the Green Committee over the coming year is to develop an effective College-wide program for the recycling of paper and beverage containers.
