BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Purpose: The Associate in Science degree curriculum in Business Administration is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, Business Management, Decision Science and Management, Information Systems, Finance, Marketing, etc.

Transfer Information: Since four-year colleges can vary in their course and GPA requirements for the business major, please consult a counselor or faculty advisor regarding specific requirements and course selection.

Recommended Preparation: Satisfactory completion of the following high school units or equivalent: 4 units of English; 2 units of mathematics (algebra and geometry); 1 unit of laboratory science; and 1 unit of social studies.

Total credits for the A.S. Degree in Business Administration = 62-66.

1 HIS 101, 102, 121, 122 is recommended.

2 MTH 163 and 271, or MTH 173-174. For transfer to GMU, MTH 163 and 271 are recommended. A student may skip MTH 163 and start with MTH 271 if he/she has had 1 year of high school math beyond Algebra II (Trig., Functions, Calculus, etc.) and a NVCC placement test eligibility score for MTH 271. If starting with MTH 271, consult a faculty advisor for second NVCC MTH course.

3 The science elective may be selected from biology, chemistry, physics, geology, or the natural science 100 series courses with a lab component, excluding NAS 161-162. Some four-year colleges require a two-semester sequence.

4 The PED requirement may be met by one of the following options: PED 116, 2 cr.; PED 116, 1 cr. plus a PED activities course, 1 cr.; or PED 116, 1 cr. plus RPK 205, 207, 208, 216, or 225. PED 116 is offered as both a 1- credit and a 2-credit course.

5 Humanities electives may be selected from art, humanities, music, philosophy, religion, speech and drama, or foreign languages. Some four- year colleges require at least one semester of literature (e.g., GMU). Consult a faculty advisor for appropriate course selection to meet requirements of transfer institution.

6 Consult a faculty advisor for selection of general electives that will meet requirements of transfer institution. For GMU, IST 117, IST 251, and statistics which meet GMU business major core requirements are recommended.
