In order to supplement state and local monies, the College has established a foundation to provide additional financial support. The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, Inc., was established in December, 1979 as a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable foundation to the College and the Virginia Community College System. Its purpose is to raise money to support the College's programs, students, and activities.

Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Service Code and may be restricted or unrestricted. The Foundation will accept gifts of cash, securities, real estate, insurance policies, and personal property such as books and other library materials, works of art and equipment. Charitable gift annuities, remainder unitrusts, bequests, life-income plans, and memorial gifts can also be arranged for the donor's and College's benefit. Special procedures have been worked out for the establishment of scholarship funds for the benefit of currently enrolled students.

The Foundation is governed by a board of directors representing both public and private agencies and businesses in Northern Virginia. Day-to-day operations are managed by the Foundation Staff. The Foundation is located at the Brault Building, 4001 Wakefield Chapel Road, Annandale, Virginia 22003, (703) 323-3023.
