INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY
Associate in Applied Science Degree AL, AN, LO, MA, WO, ELI*

Purpose: This curriculum is designed for persons who seek employment in the field of business computer information systems, for those who are presently in that field and who desire to increase their knowledge and update their skills, and for those who must augment their abilities in other fields with knowledge and skills regarding computer information systems.

Transfer Information: NVCC has formal articulation agreements for transfer to the B.S. in Management at National Louis University, the B.S. in Occupational and Technical Studies at Old Dominion University TELETECHNET, the B.S. in Computer Information Systems at Strayer University, the B.S. in Professional Studies at Mary Washington College – James Monroe Center, and the B.S. in Business Education at Virginia Tech.

Recommended Preparation: The student should possess a proficiency in high school English, high school algebra and geometry, and computer keyboarding skills.

* Graduation requirements are certified by a faculty advisor at a campus offering this major.

2 For Software Development Specialization: select any ITP course not already included in the degree. For all Specializations EXCEPT Software Development: select ITP 112 or ITP 120 or ITP 130 or ITP 132 or ITP 134 or ITP 136.

3 The PED requirement may be met by one of the following options: PED 116, 2 cr.; PED 116, 1 cr. plus a PED activities course, 1 cr.; or PED 116, 1 cr. plus RPK 205, 216, or 225. PED 116 is offered as both a 1-credit and a 2-credit course.

In order to qualify for this degree, students must complete one of the following four specializations.

Microcomputer Specialization
Network Administration Specialization
Network Engineering Specialization
Software Development Specialization
